Back in the Saddle......

Hello all, I am finally back. It has been approximately three months since my last post, and so much has happened since then. Let's see.......

1. I spent three days in the hospital in August.....  The Dr. seems to think it was stressed related, but all is well. Thank the Lord!!!

2. We took our Son G to College......

one week after being released from hospital. ( sorry fuzzy picture)

G and me. I didn't feel my best, but I wasn't going to miss this memorable event.

 G and Dad.....

The dorm G will be staying in.

Move in time!

G, Mandy and me. A great big thanks to my friend Mandy I couldn't have done it without her!

 G, unpacking.

G, settling into his new environment, and to date he is enjoying college life! Yes!!!!!

College survival guide, I couldn't have said it any better!!!!
By the way, I have started implementing steps 5, 7, and 10 and it seems to be working.

3. I started a new job. (August)
4. Lightning struck our refrigerator, computers, garage door opener and sprinkler system, in September
THEN....

5.The pool pumped died in October.... Other than the minor setbacks mentioned above, LIFE IS PEACHY!!!!!
On a different note, Fall is in full swing and I haven't done a thing, since I've been following steps 5, 7, and 10 of the college survival guide.  But now would be a great time to share the wreaths I made last year. You can see them here. Enjoy!!!!!!

Master Bathroom Ideas

Hi all, hope you had a great weekend. Can you believe that it's August already?  My summer vacation is almost over, and in a few weeks I will be headed back to work. I really didn't get much accomplished pertaining to home improvement, there were other things that were more pressing. After I finished my office the plan was to add the finishing touches to the master-bedroom. Well, that didn't happen, instead my attention was redirected to a busted pipe in the master bathroom. Ugh!

About four years ago we encountered the exact same problem, but on that occasion we enlisted the services of a plumber. I guess I don't have to tell you what that meant, a whole lotta cash. When it was all said and done that plumber had ripped us a new one. No pun intended!

This time instead of hiring a plumber Hubby tackled the job himself. He rented a jackhammer from the Home Depot and busted up the floor. Several hours later the leak was fixed at a fraction of the plumbers cost. Thank goodness for a handy husband.

Did I mention Hubby also fixed a leak in the wall? ( see drywall  patch ) Since the plumbing episode I have been sourcing the web for bathroom ideas. I think now would be a great time to remodel. The bathroom is super tiny, (Tom Thumb size) but the goal is to make this space amazing. The ideal bathroom for me would be mostly white, with an amazing piece of furniture turned vanity, topped with brushed nickle faucets/accessories. Below are some inspirational pics that caught my eye.

 Asian Appeal

I love the look of this vanity.

Dream Bath in Blue: Stunning Statement Pieces

This bathroom is stunning, and the floors are awesome. And I really like the wall color too. I found a porcelain tile similar to the one pictured, called Calcutta. And I have the perfect shade of  gray-blue for my walls, (secret passage/Olympic). hm!

Serene Retreat

Another beautiful piece of furniture turned vanity. I would love to find an amazing piece of furniture for my master bath as well. So I'm keeping my eyes open and my fingers crossed hoping that I will.

Think White

I love the simplicity of this bathroom and the attention to details. Those sconces are cute, cute, cute!
I haven't put all the pieces together for my bathroom reno, but I will keep you posted. Thrift store here I come!!!  Have an AWESOME week!

Office Reveal

I posted about my office in April and it has taken me several weeks to complete it. I thought that I would have this project done in a jiffy NOT!!!!!! I could tell you about all the things that have happened since my last post, but I won't. So shall we begin?

This is how my office looked before he makeover. You can see the entire post here. Just in case you're wondering what happened, I am too. I have worked in this ho-hum space for several years in this condition, and believe it or not I use this space daily. What was I thinking? My budget was skinny so the first thing I did was shopped the house. I love this type of shopping, it's FREE!

After I had shopped the house, I still needed a lamp for my desk. So, I headed to the neighborhood Goodwill and unearthed this Asian inspired lamp for only $8.96. It didn't have a lampshade but that would be an easy fix. Now that all the shopping had been done ha! ha! ha!, it was time to get down to business.

I removed everything from the space except for the file cabinet, and I got busy!

First, I painted inside the bookcase and.....

The file cabinet and the hardware received a fresh coat of spray paint as well.

Then, I made an easy table skirt for the desk. Whew! Okay enough already. Are you ready for the reveal? Take it away...........

My office is comprised of thrift store finds, as well as gifts that were given to me through the years. I guess it's safe to say it's a sentimental space, and I really love it. The only things that were purchased for this space was the lamp, ($9) silver picture frame, ($9) and the wire basket covering the air-vent.($10)
Enjoy the rest of the pics!

Thanks for stopping by!

Easy Summer Mantel

Summer is here, so happy summer to all! At the beginning of the year I wrote a to do list of all the things
that I would like to accomplish before the end of 2013. But guess what? To date, the list hasn't been touched. So I thought to myself summer break would be a great time to get started, but who am I kidding. This summer all I want to do is have some FUN!  Backyard BBQ's, pool parties and lazy days on the beach HERE I COME!.  So whose with me?  Oops, I almost forgot the to-do-list......
 Let's see, I need to
#1. Reupholster sofa
#2. Make curtains/entry/living room
#3. Repaint the entry way
#4. Paint end tables/living room
#5. Finish painting the chairs I started painting 6 months ago. ugh! And the list goes on and on.
A few days ago I was in a tizzy and I needed to do something, anything just to say I had completed a  task. Well, it didn't take me very long to figure out that my mantle was in desperate need of help. So what's a girl to do?

This is how the mantle looked before the makeover. It literally had become a catch all, for all the items that I was too lazy to put away. Do you see the coffee cup? That was one good cup of coffee. ha! ha! ha!

I removed everything  from the mantle, and the goal was to create a look that was very very easy and eye catching, so that's exactly what I did.

Tada! Do you remember the pictures I took at Bok Tower? I finally found the perfect home for them. It took about ten minutes to complete the mantle makeover. The vertical picture was put in place first. Then came the horizontal picture. Next, I staggered the height of the vases by placing one of them atop some old work books. Luckily for me the books were black and white, whew! What do you think? It works for me!
My mantle, quick easy and eye catching, who knew?

Thanks for stopping by!

It all happened in May

Hi all, I am back from a very hectic May. I was a very busy bee last month, and I still haven't fully recuperated. There were so many things that happened in May. Let's see, we started the month out with Girl's Day Out, which was May 4th. My friend Mandy Lou's Birthday was the day before so we turned it into a girl's day out/ birthday celebration. We started the day out thrifting, but that went bust in a hurry, we didn't find anything. Next, we headed over to Ruby Tuesday's for lunch, and boy was it yummy! Finally, the last stop of the day LegoLand Florida.

It's truly amazing what can be done with Lego's.

Did you know that it takes 570 gallons of paint to cover the White house? I didn't

We had a great time at LegoLand sitting, chatting and enjoying the beautiful weather.

May 12th  Mother's Day. I did absolutely nothing, I received several phone calls from friends and family. My son gave me the cutest little card. It made my day! The card reads Are you the Best MOM ever. The inside reads,  I'll bet my blanket on it! sweet, sweet, sweet!

May 20th my birthday, I took the day off from work and got caught up on a few things around the house. Hubby and son showered me with costume jewelry, my favorite! and more wonderful cards.

May 29th was my Mom's 75th Birthday, and Baccalaureate was held on the same night at 6:00 p.m. My youngest is graduating from High School this year.

Me, my sister and G waiting for the awards ceremony to begin.

May 30th Family came in for graduation ceremonies, plus  Academic Awards Night, tonight. My son graduated with honors and will be headed off to college in the fall. The next day my Daughter and her family arrived. They are all camera hogs, so family pics were of top priority. ha! ha! ha!

Wow what a good looking family? Look at Zsa Zsa's Girl, isn't she absolutely adorable?

The GRAND FINALE! GRADUATION CEREMONY JUNE 1, 2013

That handsome young man is OUR SON! Did I mention he graduated with honors?

The Auditorium was packed.

There he is again receiving his Diploma! I was shouting from the stands, "That's my boy", "That's my boy". After the ceremony we headed to Steak and Shake to grab a bite to eat.

Me, my sister and the graduate. We are so excited for G.

Wow, what a month to remember!
